Research data on Rembrandt’s Portrait of Nicolaes van Bambeeck added to the database

25 February 2019

As a result of our collaboration with The Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (KMSKB), both situated in Brussels, some 100 technical documents on Rembrandt’s Portrait of Nicolaes van Bambeeck have been added to The Rembrandt Database.

Between April 2007 and June 2009 the Portrait of Nicolaes van Bambeeck was treated at the KIK-IRPA. Technical documents generated during this conservation project, such as a treatment report, an X-ray assembly and UV photographs, are now accessible online, through The Rembrandt Database. A selection of these technical documents are also available online via the BALaT database of the KIK-IRPA. Aside from research data kept at the KIK-IRPA and KMSKB, technical documents from other partners have also been added to the online database; among which X-ray data from the Straus Center for Conservation and Technical Studies in Cambridge and sample documentation from the Doerner Institut in Munich.

We are grateful to Erik Buelinckx (Scientific Assistant, KIK-IRPA) and Liesbeth de Belie (Curator of 17th-  century Dutch Painting, KMSKB) for providing us with the research data and for working in close collaboration with the RKD on the online presentation.
