TheRembrandtDatabase

Public launch

19 September 2012

As of today, The Rembrandt Database is live!

After a long period of behind-the-scenes work on cataloguing, digitizing and describing documentation, entering art-historical data and developing the database and the user interface, the website can now be seen by everyone for the first time. It is still in the beta stage, but will continue to be developed and will be expanded to include new functions.

The website currently contains 1,700 digital documents (visual and textual material) relating to 12 paintings in 3 different museums. This number will grow considerably in the coming period. Content posted in recent years that relates to other paintings in the Mauritshuis is now in the final phases of editing and checking. Moreover, new avenues of collaboration mean that the number of museums presenting paintings on this website is growing continually and will eventually rise to twenty in 2014.
