Online as of now: 9 paintings from the Detroit Institute of Arts

3 September 2019

As of today research data on 9 paintings from the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), among which The Visitation, is available online in The Rembrandt Database.

The Detroit Institute of Arts has been so generous to share some 120 research documents online through The Rembrandt Database. The documents include X-radiographs and Infrared/UV/normal light and raking light photographs. Also meta data on earlier treatments has been added, to provide an overview of the history of conservation and technical research of the paintings. In addition to the documentation received from the DIA, data from Dr. Peter Klein and from the archive of The Rembrandt Research Project (kept at the RKD – Netherlands Institute of Art History) has been added to the database.

We are most grateful to Yao-Fen You (former Associate Curator of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the DIA), James Miller (former Curatorial Assistant, European Art Department at the DIA) and Rheagan Martin (former Project Associate at the DIA) for providing us with the research data and for working in close collaboration with the RKD on the online presentation.
